General Information about Olympia
Olympia, also known as the cradle of the Olympics, is an archaeological site in Greece located in the outlying unit of Elis.
In antiquity, the archaic Greeks considered the valley where Olympia is located "the valley of the Gods" so they decided to build a temple dedicated to Zeus here and turn the site into a religious and sports center, since there they began to carry out the Olympic games, which paid tribute to Zeus and Apollo, gods of ancient Greece.
Olympia is located at the foot of Mount Cronio, named after Cronos (father of Zeus), and on the right side of the Alpheus river, so the ruins of this important temple are intermingled with a remarkable natural landscape, in which that it is possible to find waterfalls, streams and a bush that advances on the old temple.
This destination is one of the most chosen in Greece due to its profound archaeological value, since it allowed us to learn much more about the ancient Greek civilization.
