Latium: the Highlights
Latium is an Italian region in the center of the country, whose main city is Rome, the capital of the country that served as the center of the ancient Roman Empire. The geography of this area is very varied, as there you will find mountains, plains, hills, rivers, sea coasts and many protected natural areas, such as the Abruzzo National Park or the Tor Caldara Regional Nature Reserve.
Thanks to the fact that this region was the cradle of the ancient Roman civilization, it stands out for its rich cultural heritage, because there you will find art, history, architecture, archaeological jewels and incredible sites if religious tourism attracts your attention.
Latium is bordered to the north by Tuscany and Umbria, to the south by Campania, to the southeast by Molise, to the east by Marche and Abruzzo, and to the west by the Tyrrhenian Sea, the name given to the part of the Mediterranean Sea that borders the western Italian peninsula.
Visit Latium
Latium's high season is from June to September, so we recommend that you take these months into account if you want to enjoy the summer heat. And if you are one of those who get suffocated quickly, don't worry, you can visit it in the fall or spring and you will also find the region splendid.
What to Eat and Drink in Latium
Latium gastronomic offer is exquisite, its secret: confidence in first-class raw materials and dedication when preparing its traditional recipes.
A typical dish that we recommend you try is Trippa alla romana, a dish of beef tripe with tomato sauce, pecorino cheese and sautéed celery, onion and carrot. So also the pastas of this region will not disappoint you.
And if you are a lover of sweets, try Pangiallo, a type of roll made with flour, nuts, caramelized fruit and chocolate, colored and saffron.
As for the drink, you must try Sambuca, a typical liquor from the area very similar to Anís.
