CHRISTMAS MARKETS: FROM VIENNA TO MUNICH

After your arrival at Vienna-Schwechat Airport, one of our vehicles will be waiting to transport you to your hotel.

Vienna is the capital of Austria and also one of the largest cities in the country. It is renowned for its rich history, impressive architecture, and cultural significance.

Its history dates back to Roman times, but Vienna reached its zenith during the Habsburg dynasty. For centuries, Vienna was the seat of the Holy Roman Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As a result, the city is filled with historic monuments, palaces, and museums.

The rest of the day will be free for you to relax and start enjoying this magnificent city.

In the evening, we will have a welcome dinner at the hotel.

You will start the day with a wonderful breakfast and then continue with a visit to St. Stephen's Cathedral, an iconic symbol of Vienna with its stunning Gothic architecture and impressive spire. 

Next, you will head to the Hofburg Palace, the former imperial winter residence that now houses several museums and the offices of the Austrian president. Marvel at the grandeur of the palace, which reflects centuries of Austrian imperial history.

You then move on to view the Belvedere Palace, a masterpiece of baroque architecture. This historic building houses an impressive collection of Austrian art, including the famous painting "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt.

Our tour continues to the Prater Amusement Park, home to the famous Giant Ferris Wheel, offering spectacular views of the city. The park is a delightful mix of history and fun, with attractions for visitors of all ages.

You also take in the modern UN Buildings, a testament to Vienna's role as a hub for international diplomacy and cooperation.

This afternoon, visit one of the many Christmas markets. Each market has its unique charm, from the artisanal crafts and festive decorations to live music performances and ice skating rinks. Soak in the holiday spirit as you explore the beautifully decorated stalls and enjoy the lively atmosphere that makes Vienna's Christmas markets truly special.

After a hearty breakfast, we drive to Salzburg, the city of Mozart. Our first stop is at the famous “Silent Night” chapel, where the beloved Christmas carol was composed. It's a serene and historical spot that resonates with the spirit of Christmas.

Upon arrival, we check into your hotel, where you can relax and settle in before our next activity.

Later in the afternoon, we visit Salzburg’s Christmas Market, renowned since the 15th century. Located at the foot of the majestic Hohensalzburg fortress and surrounding the venerable Cathedral of Salzburg, this market offers a magical atmosphere filled with festive lights, traditional handicrafts, and seasonal treats.

Greca Tip: Try a slice of traditional Mozartkugel, a delicious chocolate and marzipan treat named after Salzburg's most famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It's a delightful way to savor a piece of local history and culinary tradition.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we embark from Salzburg in the morning, journeying towards Regensburg for an enlightening orientation tour of the city. Regensburg, with its well-preserved medieval architecture and UNESCO World Heritage Site status, offers a glimpse into its rich history.

Following our tour, we explore the impressive Christmas market nestled in the heart of Regensburg. Here, traditional wooden stalls brim with handmade crafts, festive decorations, and local culinary delights.

Continuing our journey, we head to Nuremberg and settle into our hotel. The evening presents an opportunity to immerse yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of one of Nuremberg's renowned Christmas markets.

Greca Tip: Don't miss trying the Nuremberg Lebkuchen, a type of gingerbread cookie famous throughout Germany. Its aromatic spices and sweet flavor make it a perfect treat during the holiday season.

After enjoying a tasty breakfast, we begin our morning sightseeing tour of Nuremberg. We delve into the medieval charm of the city, exploring its historic streets and landmarks that reflect centuries of rich history. A highlight of the tour is a visit to the Nazi Party rally grounds, a solemn reminder of Germany's complex past, followed by insights into the Nuremberg trials, a pivotal moment in international law.

In the afternoon, we head to the main square where the vibrant Christkindl market awaits. This market is renowned as one of the oldest and finest in Europe, offering a magical atmosphere with its twinkling lights and festive decorations. One thing not to miss here is tasting the famous Lebkuchen, traditional German gingerbread known for its rich spices and delightful sweetness. Pair it with a warm cup of mulled wine (Glühwein) to complete the sensory experience of the Christmas market.

After a delicious breakfast, in the late morning we will start our drive to Munich.

Munich offers a blend of rich history, cultural vibrancy, and Bavarian charm, with attractions ranging from historic architecture and world-class museums to lively beer gardens and traditional markets.

This afternoon, immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere of one of Munich's enchanting Christmas markets, where you can browse artisanal crafts, savor seasonal treats, and enjoy the magical ambiance. Later, indulge in a memorable dinner at a local restaurant, savoring Bavarian specialties and toasting to the end of your journey through Germany's holiday delights.

You will start the day with a tasty breakfast and then continue with a visit to Nymphenburg Castle, a stunning baroque palace that was once the residence of the monarchs of Bavaria. Admire its grand architecture and beautiful gardens.

Next, we will see the Residence, the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs, and then proceed along Maximilian and Leopold Street. We will pass by the Opera and the Olympic grounds, a site rich in sporting history.

We will continue to Marienplatz, the main square of Munich, where you can see the impressive city hall and the famous Carillon, which offers a delightful musical performance with its moving figures. Nearby, you'll find the church of St. Peter, the oldest church in the city, offering stunning views from its tower. Don’t miss the vibrant Viktualienmarkt, an open-air market famous for its fresh produce and Bavarian delicacies.

In the afternoon, dedicate your time to visiting Munich's oldest Christmas market, the Christkindl market at Marienplatz. Here, you can soak up the festive atmosphere, explore the numerous stalls, and enjoy traditional Bavarian Christmas treats.

Greca Tip: While at the Christkindl market, be sure to try the "Feuerzangenbowle," a traditional German mulled wine punch made with rum-soaked sugarloaf set on fire and dripped into the wine. It's a unique and warming experience perfect for the festive season.

After breakfast, at the agreed time, we will be transferred to Munich Airport.
