Accommodation
Excursion Itinerary: Quintessential kefalonia

Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel to begin this panoramic tour of the island of Kefalonia through its olive groves, vineyards, and thick cypress forests.

You will pass by Mount Ainos and head towards the Robola winery, at an altitude of 410 meters, just below the slopes of Mount Ainos and beside the Monastery of Agios (Saint) Gerasimos, patron Saint of the island. Here you will taste the famous wine and make your purchases.

Your next stop will be at the Drogarati caves, which consist of a long corridor that leads to the Royal Balcony, a natural platform of stalactites that beautifully reflect the light, and the Chamber of Exaltation, which has great acoustics. This chamber is the biggest hall of the cave and it is here where cultural events take place including concerts with famous opera singers, like Maria Callas.

Afterward, you will see Melissani Lake, this natural wonder consisting of a dark cave with a subterranean lake, where you will be amazed by the spectacular underwater reflections, the stalagmites, stalactites, and the fantastic rock formations.

You will later have lunch in the traditional village of Fiscardo, which marvelously survived the destructive earthquake in 1953. Its grand mansions with their elegant balconies, the old two-story houses, the dark red-tiled rooftops, the green mountain sides, the blue of the sea, and the overall scenery are enchanting.

Leaving Fiscardo, you will head to the small fishing village of Assos, which gives the impression of being an island of its own and is one of the most picturesque places in all of Greece. In this town, you will have free time to enjoy your coffee surrounded by the beauty of nature. On your way back, you will stop briefly at Myrtos Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world because of the combination of the turquoise colors of the sea, the white of the sand, and the green of vegetation.

At this point, this full-day excursion will come to an end and you will return to your accommodation.

Greca Tip: Kefalonia produces yellow cheese, feta cheese, olive oil, honey, and local meats. It is also home to a large number of delicious recipes, such as the lagoto and sofigado dishes, and for those with a sweet tooth mandoles (almonds assorted with sugar) and pastokydono (a sweet made of quince puree).
