What Edfu Is Known For
Edfu is a city located in Upper Egypt, about 60 km north of Aswan. It is situated on the west bank of the Nile River and is the capital of the Edfu Governorate. The city has a population of around 60,000 people.
Edfu is known for its well-preserved ancient temple, the Temple of Horus, which is considered one of the most complete examples of a Ptolemaic temple still in existence. The temple is dedicated to the god Horus and was built during the Ptolemaic period, between 237 and 57 BCE.
The city has a long history dating back to ancient times, and it is home to several other ancient Egyptian sites, including the Temple of Hathor, which is located next to the Temple of Horus.
Edfu is also home to a vibrant Nubian community, which has a rich culture and tradition of its own. Visitors can visit the Nubian village, located on the west bank of the Nile River, and learn about the culture and customs of the Nubian people.
Edfu is a popular destination for tourists who are interested in ancient Egyptian history, culture, and architecture, as well as for those who want to experience the Nubian culture. The city has a variety of accommodations and services to cater to tourists' needs.
